LockTober: Penis Chastity 101
What is a penis chastity?
A penis chastity, also known as a cock cage, is a device that entraps the penis and locks it in place so that it cannot be removed without a key or code. The purpose of the device is to prevent the wearer from being able to masturbate, receive oral or manual penis stimulation, or have penetrative sex. This is accomplished by the fact that as soon as there is an erection, the penis will strain against the device and cause discomfort. A penis chastity consists of two parts: a ring that sits against the body and a cage that the penis sits in. These parts are locked together either with a padlock and key or numbered plastic tags. The cage has a hole to allow the wearer to urinate without removing the device. These devices are typically made from either body-safe plastic or metal. Some penis chastity devices are completely closed over the entire shaft of the penis, such as the Master Series Chamber Silicone Chastity Cage. Others, like the Electric Eel Blue Line Deluxe Steel Chastity Cage, are partially open. There are also belt-style penis chastity devices with straps that go around the wearer’s hips, like the PipeDream Fetish Fantasy Extreme Chastity Belt.
How do you put on a penis chastity?
First, separate the parts of the device. Pass the testicles, one-by-one, and then the non-erect penis through the cock ring. The ring will sit against the body to securely hold the device in place. Then, insert the non-erect penis into the cage. The testicles will hang outside the device. Once the penis is in the cage, lock the two parts together either using a padlock and key or the numbered plastic tags. Note that some penis chastity devices will not have two completely separate parts, but instead will have a hinge between the ring and the cage. These general guidelines may vary slightly from device to device.
A common method used to insert the penis in the cage of the penis chastity device is the stocking method. This method is particularly helpful for uncircumsized penis’ as it prevents the foreskin from bunching up in the cage. Here’s how it works: take a nylon stocking (or cut off one leg of a pair of tights), slide the stocking over the head and shaft of the penis, pull the end of the stocking through the urine hole or lower opening of the cage, lock the chastity device, then pull the stocking completely off the penis through the urine hole or lower opening.
Why would someone want to wear a penis chastity?
A penis chastity is commonly used in BDSM play and relationships where the penis-owner is in a submissive role. By wearing this device, the penis-owner gives control of their sexual activities to their dominant partner(s) who hold the key or the code to unlock the device. Although a penis chastity is often used in a partnered context, where the keyholder or code-holder is either a romantic partner, a Lifestyle Domme or a Pro-Domme, there are some penis-owners who simply enjoy wearing a penis chastity device under their clothes in their day-to-day life without a partner involved. The wearer may derive pleasure from the constant reminder from the weight of the device of the sexual denial they are experiencing. For many folks, sexual denial can heighten anticipation and create a high level of arousal that intensifies eventual sexual release. They may also derive pleasure from the device symbolizing control and submission. For some penis-owners, their penis is the core of their masculinity and the taboo of having it restricted can be erotic to them. There are also those who are into the S&M (sadism and masochism) aspect of it as the penis will experience pain should it try to become erect. Overall, there are many different reasons for why a penis chastity could be appealing. As long as there is consent established, all reasons are perfectly valid.
What are some safety considerations for penis chastity play?
If the penis chastity is being used in a partnered context with a keyholder or code-holder, it is important to negotiate and define the limits together. The physical, emotional and mental wellness of the device wearer must be prioritized.
In a situation where either the key or code is lost, bolt cutters or a trip to the emergency room may be needed. To avoid this type of situation, it is wise to devise a plan for how the wearer could access the key or code in case of emergency before the device is locked.
Using a little bit of lubrication on the penis and the testicles will help them slide into the device more easily. Applying a little lubricant beneath the cock ring on a daily basis will also help to ease chafing.
For longer penis chastity lock-up periods, plastic devices are recommended over metal ones as they are slightly more flexible and more comfortable to sleep in.
Penis chastity devices that are not fully closed will be easier to maintain good hygiene with. A device with a closed cage should not be worn for longer than a few days without removing to allow the wearer to clean their genitals thoroughly and to prevent skin rashes, bad odors, and infections.
