BOOK CHOICE: Slutever by Karley Sciortino

SLUTEVER is a call-to-arms, a confessional memoir, a slut manifesto, as told by a sex-radical hedonist in a pink PVC mini dress. It's a thoughtful, first-person account of a modern woman, navigating sex, love, casual hookups, open relationships,, bisexuality, BDSM, breakups, sex work, sex parties, and the power of sexual agency, as told from the front lines.

About the Author:

Karley Sciortino is an American writer, television host, and producer. She is the founder of Slutever, a website that focuses on sex and sexuality, and executive producer and host of the Viceland documentary series of the same name.[1] She also writes Vogue's online sex and relationships column, Breathless.[2][3]

About the book:

“Society’s experiencing growing pains when it comes to female sexual autonomy,” writes Karley Sciortino in her new memoir Slutever: Dispatches From a Sexually Autonomous Woman in a Post-Shame World. Sciortino, 31, who’s been writing a sex blog since her teens, isn’t wrong about those growing pains. There ought to be no conflict between the Sherman’s March that the #MeToo movement is currently making through the ranks of skeevy, abusive, powerful men and the liberation Sciortino preaches. Yet Slutever, an engagingly devil-may-care account of Sciortino’s many erotic escapades, feels a shade off trend politically. The self-determination to say “Yes” without shame is the flip side of the freedom to say “No,” yet the public conversation seems only able to focus on one at a time. Women who protest having men’s sexual desires imposed on them in the workplace are persistently, even willfully, misread as wilting neo-Victorian pseudo-virgins by #MeToo skeptics, while the harassers themselves seem to believe that women, in choosing to be sexually active, forfeit any right to choose what they do and who they do it with. The madonna-whore complex dies hard. SLATE

ABOUT MUSE:

Muse Fontaine is an erotic content creator and adult performance artist whose work centers on the social and political realities of censorship, embodiment, and femme sexuality. Through art, education, and advocacy, she challenges cultural taboos surrounding sexual expression and bodily autonomy.

She is the founder of The Squirt Project, an educational network dedicated to compiling and sharing accurate, experiential information about female ejaculation. The project aims to demystify misunderstood aspects of sexuality while promoting informed, shame-free dialogue.

With over 15 years of experience as a workshop presenter and facilitator, Muse has taught and performed internationally at events and venues including Sexapalooza, Taboo, Climax, Sensorium Studio, and Lust in San Cristóbal, Mexico. Her work blends education, performance, and community engagement to create inclusive learning environments.

In addition to public workshops, Muse offers private consultations for individuals and couples, both in person and online. Her consulting work supports people exploring kink and BDSM lifestyles, as well as those navigating relationship models, parenting styles, and family structures that exist outside traditional gender binaries and nuclear family norms.

Muse facilitates workshops on a wide range of topics, including female ejaculation, sex and pregnancy, the politics of sex work, sex and parenting, and alternative relationship structures. Her work continues to advocate for sexual literacy, bodily autonomy, and expansive definitions of intimacy and family.
